SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? UNC Greensboro’s Mike Richardson has been named the Southern Conference Men’s Player of the Week for the week of August 29.

Richardson, a senior midfielder from Dobson, N.C., contributed in both of the Spartans’ wins last week, recording a goal and assist in each match. He had a hand in both game-winning goals to give UNCG a 2-0 start for the season. Richardson tallied six points last week for the Spartans after only picking up eight points in 2005.

In UNCG’s win over Jacksonville, Richardson scored on a penalty kick to ttie the game at 2-2 with just less than 12 minutes to play and assisted on the game-winning goal with six minutes left in the match. Against Stetson, Richardson tallied an assist when he intercepted a pass from a Stetson player, tapping the ball forward for the Randi Patterson goal. He then scored the game-winner against Stetson with 5:33 to play to seal the win.

Other top performers include Appalachian State's Paul Pessina, College of Charleston’s Darren Toby, Elon’s BRett Paschall, Furman’s Dominic Cianciarulo and Wofford’s Joey Taylor.
