SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Furman’s Chibuzo Aguocha has been named the Southern Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of August 28. 

Aguocha, a junior from Houston, Tex., led the Lady Paladins to a 2-1 record to start the sesaon. She recorded 22 kills, seven digs and four blocks against Virginia Tech at the ECU Invitational on August 25. Aguocha then tallied 24 kills, 14 digs and two blocks in Furman’s 3-1 win over East Carolina on Saturday morning. She finished up the weekend with 17 kills and nine digs in a 3-0 win over William & Mary.

Aguocha was named to the ECU Invitational All-Tournament Team for her efforts last weekend. She finished the week with 63 kills, 30 digs and seven blocks. Her 63 kills was the most of any player at the ECU Invitational. Aguocha’s double-double against East Carolina was the 11th of her carrer.

Other top performers last week include: Brittany Zahn, Appalachian State (38 kills, 18 digs in three matches), Davidson’s Kittery Neale (37 kills, 10 digs in three matches), Georgia Southern’s Christy Dowd (49 kills, 35 digs in three matches), UNCG’s Theresa Hart (40 kills, 18 digs in three matches), Western Carolina’s Brittny Johnson (25 kills, 12 blocks in four matches) and Wofford’s Liz Sheets (29 kills, four digs in three matches).
