League Announces 2006 Southern Conference Football Television Schedule

GREENVILLE, SC -- A minimum of 12 regionally or nationally-televised games will feature Southern Conference football teams, including five games that are part of the SoCon-produced television package in 2006. Conference games are featured in the package for eight straight weekends, beginning Saturday, Sept. 23.  Four games will also be featured in non-conference telecasts, which includes one game on the College Sports Television (CSTV) “National I-AA Game of the Week” package.

Furman begins the SoCon television season on CSTV with its opener at home Sept. 2 against Jacksonville State.  Two weeks later (Sept. 16) an ESPNU audience will watch the Paladins travel to Chapel Hill, NC, a place where Furman upset UNC in 1999, 28-3.  Georgia Southern starts a string of eight consecutive weeks of league contests on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS), where three of the conference’s five produced games will air.  Defending I-AA national champion Appalachian State will make two straight appearances on Turner South, traveling to GSU on Oct. 21 and hosting Furman one week later on Oct. 28.

“We are very pleased to put together an extensive television package, with our production and those of some of our institutions,” Southern Conference Commssioner John Iamarino said.  “The Southern Conference fan will be able to watch SoCon football just about every week of the season.”
