CHARLESTON, SC - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) announced via teleconference today that the College of Charleston women’s golf team will be heading to the NCAA East Regional at Bryan Park Champions Golf Course in Browns Summitt, N.C. The NCAA East Regional is set for May 11th ? 13th.

Charleston, which won the Southern Conference Women’s Golf Tournament by two strokes over Western Carolina April 25th to earn the automatic bid to the NCAAs, will be making its second trip of the season to Bryan Park. The Cougars competed at the Bryan Park Intercollegiate earlier this year, finishing 13th in a field that consisted of 10 of the nation’s top 20 teams.

“We are in the regional we wanted to be in,” says Head Women’s Golf Coach Jamie Futrell. “It is a difficult regional, but we have beaten several of the teams that are in this East Regional. We will have to play our best golf, and if we do that we will have a good chance to advance to Nationals.”

Other teams in the East Regional include Arizona State, Auburn, Tennessee, Wake Forest (host school), Virginia, LSU, South Carolina, N.C. State, East Carolina, Florida State, North Carolina and Furman. For a complete list visit NCAASports.com

The women’s golf team is led be Senior Angie Hill, who picked up Southern Conference Player-of-the-Year honors, taking the individual medalist title at the league tournament. She shot a tournament and school record 68 in the second round to pace the team to the victory.

The Cougars, who are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance, will compete for a spot in the finals which are being held at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio, May 23rd - 26th.
