ELON, N.C. ? Sebastian Bredberg ? the Southern Conference Player of the Week ? beat Ethan Jaffee 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles as Elon soared to a 6-1 men's tennis triumph over Davidson in its SoCon regular-season finale Sunday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

The victory marked the sixth in as many matches for the Phoenix (16-4 overall, 8-1 SoCon). Elon improved to 11-0 at home on the season while reaching its highest victory total during its seven-year tenure at the NCAA Division I level. The 2002-03 Elon men's tennis squad finished 15-4.

The Phoenix posted doubles victories by Damon Gooch and Austin Fenn at No. 1 (over Jaffee and Flaviu Simihaian 8-5) and Anuwat Dalodom and Gustaf Asplund at No. 3 (over Daniel Bermeo and Matt Hartman 8-5) to register the doubles point. The Wildcats (9-10, 2-6) picked up a win at No. 2 where Joe Cheaney and Phillip Compeau overcame Bredberg and Kevin Colin 8-6.

Victories by Dalodom at No. 2 singles (over Bermeo 6-2, 6-3) and No. 120 Gooch at No. 1 (over Simihaian 6-2, 6-2) fattened the Elon edge to 3-0, setting the stage for Bredberg's match-clinching triumph at No. 3. Wins by Asplund at No. 4 (over Jay Chitty 6-4, 6-1) and Fenn at No. 5 (over Scott Myers 4-6, 6-1, 6-2) stretched the Phoenix advantage to 6-0.

In the final bout of the day, Davidson scored at No. 6 singles where Hartman rallied past Kevin Beard for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-5 victory.

Elon visits East Carolina at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Davidson has one more match scheduled before the end of the regular season, which will be against Appalachian State. A date has not been determined yet after the match was postponed Saturday due to inclement weather expected in Boone, N.C.

The Wildcats are still searching for their 10th victory of the year, which would give the program and coach Jeff Frank 34 consecutive seasons with at least 10 wins.
