College of Charleston 4, Wofford 3
Senior Ellen Rogers matched her career-best total for victories and the Wofford women's tennis team garnered two more wins in singles action but dropped a hard-fought 4-3 loss to College of Charleston Saturday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
Rogers tallied a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Maxine Capewell at the No. 1 position to equal her sophomore season's effort of 14 wins. The victory also improved Rogers' SoCon record to 6-1, giving her at least six league wins in each of her four seasons with the Terriers.
Also posting a singles triumph for Wofford was junior Adriane Hodges with a 6-1, 7-6 decision against Ashley Finnegan at the No. 4 slot. Hodges' win keeps her even with Rogers for the team lead on the season with 14.
Freshman Ashley Page was also victorious, registering a 6-3, 6-2 triumph vs. Payten Ellington at the No. 5 position.
The Cougars claimed the doubles point, despite a battle at the No. 1 slot where Terriers' Rogers and fellow senior Tara Hartness forced a tiebreaker before falling 9-7 to Ellington and Chelsea Albertz.
Prior to the match, the Wofford tennis program recognized Hartness and Rogers as part of Senior Day ceremonies. The pair were playing in their next-to-last home match for the Terriers.
Wofford drops to 12-9 overall and 5-2 in the SoCon with the loss, while College of Charleston improves to 12-9 overall and 7-1 in the league.
The Terriers will next play in their final road contest of the season, at Davidson, in a 2 p.m. Tuesday meeting before returning home for the last regular-season match at 2 p.m. Wednesday against Elon in a rescheduled date.

STATESBORO, Ga. - In the final home match of the season, the Georgia Southern women’s tennis team emerged with a 5-2 victory over the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga Saturday morning (April 8). The day was made even more special as the team honored its two seniors, Kim Wollett and Szilvia Zsakay, both of whom earned wins in the match.
Zsakay and doubles partner Heather Reynolds came away with an 8-5 flight two victory over UTC’s Talita Bragato and Beata Knizat. The Eagles (6-14, 3-5 SoCon) took the doubles point as Wollett and Jessica Matlosz won at No. 3, 8-2.
In singles action, Georgia Southern took flights three thru six to complete the win over UTC (10-11, 2-6 SoCon). Wollett, Reynolds, Lauren Wolken and Emma Knight all earned well-played victories.
The Lady Eagles will conclude the regular season next Saturday against Appalachian State at 10:00 a.m. Southern Conference Tournament play will begin Thursday, April 20 in Charleston, South Carolina.
