Appalachian State 5, UNC Greensboro 2
Mountaineers picked up their first Southern Conference win of the season as the Appalachian State University men’s tennis team defeated UNC Greensboro, 5-2, Friday at the ASU Stadium Tennis Courts.
With the win the Mountaineers improve to 9-9 overall and 1-6 in SoCon play, snapping a three-match losing streak. The Spartans fall to 3-19 overall and 1-8 in league play.
Appalachian started the match with the first win at doubles as the No. 2 team of junior Dimitar Dimitrov (Sofia, Bulgaria) and senior Andrew Waters (Durban, South Africa) defeated Jason Steinhorn and Ryan Lewis, 8-5. UNC Greensboro evened the doubles action at one win apiece with an 8-6 win at No. 1.
The doubles point came down to the No. 3 position as the ASU pair of junior Alex Probst (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and sophomore Robert Hogewood (Greensboro, N.C.) defeated Austin Wilty and Ian Conchar, 8-6, in the duos first match together this season to clinch the point for the home team.
ASU built on its 1-0 lead after doubles action as Dimitrov picked up a quick 6-3, 6-0 win over Conchar at No. 3 singles and senior Andrew Taylor (Parkland, Fla.) defeated Lewis, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 5.
After an UNCG victory at the No. 2 position, Waters clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 defeat of Wilty at No. 3, putting the Mountaineers up 4-1. Probst rounded at the ASU victories as he used three sets to defeat Marc Ladoucer, 7-6, 3-6, 10-8, at the
No. 1 position.

ELON, N.C. Elon captured all nine matches against Winston-Salem State, fashioning a 7-0 non-conference men?s tennis victory for its fifth consecutive win Friday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Phoenix (15-4 overall, 10-0 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center) received doubles victories by Damon Gooch and Austin Fenn at No. 1 (over Ryan Lindquist and Patrick Jenkins 8-0), Gustaf Asplund and Kevin Colin at No. 2 (over Andrew Jones and Daren Milbourne 8-0) and Kyle Smialek and Alex Garrett at No. 3 (over Chuck Hinton and Justin Talley 8-0).
Elon earned singles success by Gooch at No. 1 (over Lindquist 6-0, 6-0), Sebastian Bredberg at No. 2 (over Jones 6-0, 6-0), Kevin Beard at No. 3 (over Hinton 6-0, 6-0), Colin at No. 4 (over Jenkins 6-0, 6-0), Smialek at No. 5 (over Milbourne 6-0, 6-0) and Garrett at No. 6 (over Talley 6-0, 6-0).
Elon (7-1 SoCon) will host Davidson in its Southern Conference regular-season finale at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Rams (6-9) will host North Carolina Central next Friday.
The Mountaineers’ match against Davidson originally scheduled for Saturday, April 8 in Boone has been postponed due to forecasted inclement weather. There is no makeup date scheduled at this time. ASU returns to action, Wednesday, April 12 hosting North Carolina A&T in non-conference action at 2 p.m. at the ASU Stadium Tennis Courts.

Georgia Southern 7, Jacksonville 0
STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern broke out of a five match skid in a big way, defeating Jacksonville University 7-0 Friday afternoon (April 7) on Hanner Courts.
The Eagles (6-12, 2-5 SoCon) were winners in each match, sweeping both the singles and doubles portions. Joris De Weerdt and Vincent Patry returned to their winning ways as doubles partners, taking down JU’s Marcos Oliveira and Clay Garett 8-4 in the No. 1 flight. Daniel Harden and Neil Shine were victorious at No. 2, 8-1 and Jamin Dean and Jakub Hanusz took No. 3 by default.
In singles action, Georgia Southern rolled to straight set victories in each match. The Eagles only lost a combined five games over the course of five matches. The Dolphins were forced to forfeit the final flight, awarding Dean his first collegiate win.
Georgia Southern returns to conference action Sunday, as they host UT Chattanooga at noon.
