College of Charleston 6, Wofford 1
Mt. Pleasant, S.C. -- Larry Cobb collected three hits for the second consecutive day and starter Graham Godfrey pitched 7 1/3 strong innings as 17th-ranked College of Charleston defeated Wofford, 6-1, in Southern Conference baseball action before 773 at Patriots Point Field on Saturday.
Charleston, which has won its last 27 SoCon series dating back to 2003, improved to 32-9 overall and 14-3 in league play. Wofford fell to 17-26 and 3-14. CofC goes for the three-game sweep at 1:00 on Sunday.
Cobb, who went 3-for-3 in the Cougars' 11-4 win on Friday, had singles in the fifth and seventh innings, and a game-clinching triple in the eighth.
Godfrey (6-2), who carried a four-hit shutout in the eighth, allowed five hits and a run with eight strikeouts. He left the game after surrendering a one-out solo homer to Steven Fusaro in the eighth that cut Charleston's lead to 3-1.
Phillip Coker led off the bottom of the third with a walk, stole second, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on Chris Campbell's sacrifice fly to center for a 1-0 lead.
A sacrifice fly by Coker and an RBI single by Oliver Marmol in the seventh stretched CofC's lead to 3-0.
Cobb, who is 6-for-7 with five RBI in the series, stroked a two-out, three-run triple in the eighth that scored Graham Maiden, Clay McCord and Joey Friddle for the final margin.
Austin Redwine (5-5) suffered the loss for the Terriers allowing three runs on seven hits with two walks in seven innings of work.
Keith Munns added two hits in three at bats for the Terriers.

Furman 3, Appalachian State 2
BOONE, N.C. ? Solo home runs by Rand Smith and Adam Beasley were not enough to overcome seven men left on base in Appalachian State University baseball’s 3-2 loss to first-place Furman on Saturday afternoon at Red Lackey Field.
Appalachian (16-21-1, 4-12 Southern Conference) stranded four men in the final four innings, not including having the potential winning run doubled up on Smith’s line drive to third on the final play of the game. ASU threats in the seventh and eighth innings ended with strikeouts.
Furman (25-11, 11-2 SoCon) maintained its grip on first place in the conference standings thanks to single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings and an outstanding performance on the mound from starting pitcher Matt Klinker. Klinker scattered seven hits and struck out two in 7.2 innings of work before turning it over to the Furman bullpen, which held Appalachian scoreless over the final 1.1 innings. Nick Hollstegge pitched the ninth for his ninth save of the season.
Not to be overshadowed in the pitching duel was the effort turned in by Mountaineer starter Jonathan Reeder. One week after tossing his first-career complete game in a win at Wofford, Reeder held the SoCon’s top hitting team to just three runs in 7.1 innings. The right-hander struck out five but suffered the tough-luck loss to fall to 3-4 on the season.
David Rubinstein had a 2-for-4 day at the plate, including a triple in the fourth, for the Apps’ only multi-hit performance of the afternoon. Case Cassedy banged out three doubles and scored two runs for the Paladins.
The three-game Southern Conference series wraps up on Sunday with a doubleheader at Red Lackey Field. The twinbill is set to begin at noon.
