Southern Conference Women?s Golf Championship Kicks Off On Friday

MEBANE, NC ? The 2006 Southern Conference Women’s Golf Championship kicks off at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 21 at the par 72 Mill Creek Golf Club.

 

Furman is the defending champion, having won the 2005 championship on the Furman Golf Course. The victory last year for the Lady Paladins was their second straight team SoCon championship.

 

In total, Furman has acquired 11 of the 12 team championships in the history of the event, as Western Carolina’s team victory in 2003 marks the only team champion besides Furman since the championships commencement in 1994.

 

Three different schools have claimed individual medalist honors, with Furman, Western Carolina (Brandy Andersen, 2003) and UNC Greensboro (Lotta Jonson, 1999) all featuring individuals with the top performance at the championship. A Furman student-athlete has procured top individual accolades 10 times since the inception of the event, including current Furman head coach Jen Hanna’s SoCon individual championship in 1998.

 

The championship continues on Saturday, April 22 with the golfers set to tee off at 11 a.m. The final round of the championship begins at 8 a.m. on Sunday, April 23.
