SPARTANBURG, SC -- Appalachian State’s Robert Hogewood and Chattanooga’s Anastasia Zhukova have been named the Southern Conference Men’s and Women’s Tennis Players of the Week for the week ending Apr. 17.

Hogewood, a sophomore from Greensboro, NC, helped Appalachian to a 2-0 record on the week and posted an individual mark of 2-0 playing at the No. 5 and No. 6 singles positions. Playing singles matches for just the sixth and seventh time last week, Hogewood proved to be pivotal in a win over The Citadel. Hogewood started the week with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Jared Martin of North Carolina A&T in his first match at the No. 5 singles position. Later in the week, he posted a 6-3, 7-6 win over Derek Jose of The Citadel at the No. 6 singles position. Hogewood’s victory over Jose proved to be the clinching decision, as Appalachian went on to a 4-3 victory over The Citadel. In doubles action, Hogewood played alongiside Ryan Probst and the tandem posted a 2-0 record at the No.3 position on the week.

Appalachian will take to the court again on Tuesday, when the Mountaineers play host to the Davidson Wildcats in a match that has important seeding implications for the upcoming Southern Conference Tournament.
