Winthrop 6, Wofford 1

Wins in two of the three doubles matches gave Wofford an early 1-0 lead but the Terriers could not manage any other points Wednesday afternoon in falling to Winthrop, 6-1, in non-conference women's tennis action at the Memorial Courts in Rock Hill, S.C.

Wofford tallied an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 doubles position as seniors Tara Hartness and Ellen Rogers defeated Ana Paula Novaes and Paula Takahashi.

With the doubles contests tied 1-1, sophomore Adriane Hodges and freshman Ashley Page pulled out an 8-6 triumph over Larisa Bekmetova and Alexandra Dyckman during the No. 3 match.

Rogers then faced No. 119 Novaes in singles action, at the No. 1 slot, and lost 6-2, 6-1.

The Terriers will resume their season with a home match at 1 p.m. Sunday versus Northern Colorado.
