James Madison 4, Davidson 3
DAVIDSON, N.C. ? In its first of seven straight home matches the Davidson Wildcats men's tennis team did not start off the way they had hoped to, dropping a 4-3 decision to the visiting James Madison Dukes on Tuesday afternoon. It was the Wildcats first loss to the Dukes since the 2001 season and dropped Davidson back to the .500 mark at 5-5 on the year. James Madison won its 4th match of the season to improve to 4-7 overall.
Davidson fell behind early losing two of the three doubles matches, which resulted in a 1-0 lead for James Madison going into singles play. The lone win at doubles came from the number one team of sophomore Flaviu Simihaian (Nasaud, Romania) and freshman Ethan Jaffee (Indianapolis, Ind.), who won 8-3 over Carlin Campbell and Jesse Tarr.
The difference in the match came at singles where the Wildcats took the Dukes to three three-set matches but were only able to capture one of the matches. Junior Jay Chitty (Shelby, N.C.) earned the one three set match win for Davdison, securing his second singles win of the year with a 6-2, 3-6, 7-5 victory over Brian Rubenstein at number six singles.
Jaffee picked up his team-leading sixth singles win of the season with a 6-3, 6-2 straight set triumph over Bob Allensworth. The Wildcats welcomed back senior Daniel Bermeo (Quito, Ecuador) in singles play after missing the previous two matches, but Bermeo wasn't able to help Davidson as he took John Snead to three sets before falling in the end by the count of 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Next up, the Wildcats will be looking for their first Southern Conference victory when they host SoCon foe Georgia Southern on Saturday, Mar. 11 at 1:30 p.m.

The Citadel 6, Charlotte 1
Charleston, S.C. - Not winning the doubles point didn't stop The Citadel Tuesday as the Bulldogs took all six singles matches en route to a 6-1 thumping of the 49ers in Charleston. The victory marks The Citadel's first win over Charlotte (5-9, 0-0 Atlantic 10) in the series history. The Bulldogs (6-3, 3-1 Southern Conference) have now won five of their past six matches.
Daniel Dossetor and James Eason recorded the only Bulldog doubles victory with an 8-5 in at No. 1 doubles over Charlotte's Roy Sichel and Ryan Johnson. Felix Bernhoerster and Jorge Guzman rolled to an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles over The Citadel's David Lara and Nick Medica while Charlotte sealed the doubles point victory with a win at No. 3 doubles as Stuart Lynas and Jonathan Vencatachellum topped the Bulldog tandem of Derek Jose and Ananda Sawmynaden.
Daniel Dossetor recorded his first win over a ranked opponent in singles action as Dossetor pulled out the straight set victory over No. 81 Roy Sichel. Dossetor won the first set 6-1 and trailed in the second set 5-2 before coming back to tie the set at 6-6. Dossetor then ran the table in the tiebreaker, winning 7-3 to take the 7-6 (3) set and match victory. Dossetor's win was the third singles match to finish, putting the 49ers down, 3-1.
Ananda Sawmynaden sealed the overall match win for The Citadel with a 6-2, 7-6 (2) victory at No. 2 singles.
In other singles action, James Eason continued to roll by opponents, recording his sixth consecutive win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Dorian Host at No. 3 singles. Nick Medica won at No. 5 singles after dropping the first set 6-0, bringing home sets two and three with scores of 6-2 and 6-3, respectively.
Martin King won his match at No. 6 singles in dramatic fashion as he rallied for a three-set victory. King took the first set 6-2 while his opponent, Bernhoerster, recorded a 6-4 second set win. King went down 3-0 in the third set only to pull within one at 3-2. King's spurt sparked a rally out of Bernhoerster, who quickly pulled ahead, 5-2. Facing match point several times, King rallied to win the next five sets for the 7-5 win as Bernhoerster double faulted on match point to give King the victory.
The Citadel returns to action Wednesday hosting the Dukes of James Madison at 2 p.m. Check out the home of Bulldog tennis at www.CitadelSports.com for complete results and all the latest information on The Citadel athletics.
