SPARTANBURG, SC -- Chattanooga’s Anastasia Zhukova has been named Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Mar. 6.

The junior from Moscow, Russia, recorded three victories at No.1 singles play this past week and lost a total of five games in three matches for the Lady Mocs. She remains tied for 100th nationally in the latest FILA Collgiate Tennis rankings by the ITA. Zhukova is the only player from the Southern Conference to receive a ranking and she is the first player from UTC’s women’s program to earn a national ranking in the Division I era.

She is off to a 10-0 start at No.1 singles play in the 2006 season, including wins over No.89-ranked player from 36th ranked Ole Miss, as well as players from Memphis, Middle Tennessee State and UAB.

In play this week, Zhukova recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Alabama A&M’s Charlene Tsangamwe, as well as registering a 6-1, 6-0 victory over the College of Charleston’s Maxine Capewell and a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Coastal Carolina’s Virginie Dinh.

Chattanooga returns to the court again this week, hosting Western Kentucky on Saturday, Mar. 11 at 2 p.m.
