SPARTANBURG, SC -- Elon’s Damon Gooch has been named Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Mar. 6.

The freshman from Gauteng, South Africa, went 2-1 on the week and was 1-1 against ranked opponents at No.1 singles play. He recorded a 7-6, 6-2 victory over No. 64 Nick Cavady of No. 33 North Carolina State and also registered a 6-3, 6-4 victory over High Point’s Mike Tolman. Gooch improved to 6-3 this spring with his victory over nationally-ranked Cavady. He also finished the week 2-1 at No.1 doubles playing alongside partner Austin Fenn.

The Phoenix will return to the court on Friday, Mar. 10, hosting Appalachian State at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
