Radford 6, Appalachian State 1

RADFORD, Va. ? The Appalachian State University men’s tennis team dropped its second-straight match as it fell to Radford University, 6-1, Friday at the Dedmon Center Courts.

With the loss the Mountaineers fall to 8-8 overall, while the Highlanders improve to 15-2 on the season with the win.

Appalachian dropped two of three doubles matches as Radford picked up the doubles point. Senior Andrew Taylor (Parkland, Fla.) and sophomore Robert Hogewood (Greensboro, N.C.) teamed up for an 8-6 defeat of Mehdi Benhammou and Tyler Early at the No. 3 position to tie the doubles round at one win apiece. Radford’s Brandon Johnson and James Lloyd took care of junior Dimitar Dimitrov (Sofia, Bulgaria) and senior Andrew Waters (Durban, South Africa), 8-4 at No. 2 to clinch the point for the Highlanders.

Dimitrov claimed the Mountaineers’ lone point as the junior triumphed over Arthur Vasarevic, 6-1, 7-6 (5), at No. 3 singles. Taylor fell in a three-set match to Benhammou, 6-0, 4-6, 10-5, at the No. 5 position.

The Mountaineers return to Southern Conference action as they head to Chattanooga, Tenn., to take on the Mocs, Sunday, April 2 at noon.

Belmont 4, College of Charleston 3

The College of Charleston men's team dropped four singles matches to lose 4-3 to Belmont in action this afternoon at the Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

The Cougars fall to 15-3 overall, having dropped their second straight, while the Bruins improve to 3-6 on the year.

Charleston opened the match by taking two of three doubles matches to go up 1-0 heading into singles play. The duo of Or Dekel and Marcus Digliodo defeated Javier Rodriguez and Fausto Rocha, 8-4, at number one and the team of MIke Reynolds and Jimmy Petit defeated Felipe Lima and Felipe Abreu, 8-3, at number two.

CofC was not as fortunate in singles play, dropping four for the 4-3 loss. Victorious for the Cougars was Or Dekel at number one, defeating Lima 6-1, 6-1. Justin Malina took Alex Gillott by default at number three.

Belmont is back in action Saturday, April 1st, when they travel up the road to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on the Wofford Terriers in a 3:30 PM match. The Cougars host The Citadel Tuesday, April 4th at 2:00 PM in their last home match of the year.
