Greenville, SC - The Furman men's tennis team won their second match in two days with a 7-0 victory over Appalachian State. With the win the Paladins improved to 12-9, 3-0 in the Southern Conference, dropping the Mountaineers to 8-7, 0-5 in conference.

Furman jumped out to a 1-0, sweeping all three doubles matches. As singles play began the Paladins did not let up, winning all six singles matches in straight sets to secure the 7-0 shut out. In flight one Ben Pauluhn downed Alex Probst 6-3, 6-3 and Andy Juc defeated Ryan Brookshaw 6-2, 6-4 in flight two. Playing at No.3 Greg Maarschalk hit his way to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Dimitar Dimitrov while Bo Ladyman cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 win in the No.4 slot. In flight five Daniel Knause ousted Andrew Taylor 6-1, 6-3 and in the final match Chris Gilli won recorded his eighth straight match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Zach Williams.

The Paladins return to action on Saturday when they travel to Greensboro, NC for a 1:00 PM match against UNC Greensboro.

Elon 4, UNC Wilmington 0 

ELON, N.C. ? Kevin Beard defeated Henrique Meloni 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6 singles, clinching a 4-0 men’s tennis win for Elon ? its 12th victory in 14 matches ? over UNC Wilmington Wednesday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.

The Phoenix (12-4) opened the contest by sweeping the three doubles bouts as the combinations of Damon Gooch and Austin Fenn at No. 1 (8-6 over Dennis Myers and Grant Holland), Sebastian Bredberg and Kevin Colin at No. 2 (8-7 (4) over Caio Piacentini and Brian Ford) and Anuwat Dalodom and Gustaf Asplund at No. 3 (8-4 over Meloni and Gustavo Bertei) all emerged victorious.

Elon claimed success in singles by Dalodom at No. 2 (over Bertei 6-1, 5-1 retired) and Fenn at No. 5 (over Rahul Rajkhewa 6-3, 6-3). The match was decided when Beard won at No. 6 and the remaining three singles bouts were never completed.

The Seahawks (9-7) will now travel to Towson, Md., to compete in the weekend-long CAA Round Robin event. Meanwhile, the Phoenix (5-1 in the Southern Conference) will return to league play, awaiting visits from SoCon powers Georgia Southern at 1 p.m. Saturday and Furman at 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
