The Southern Conference named Western Carolina’s Matt Cook its Men’s Golfer of the Week and College of Charleston’s Angie Hill its Women’s Golfer of the Week for the week ending March 28. Cook becomes the second straight Catamount men’s golfer to garner the award and just the second all-time.

A sophomore, Cook carded a final round score of 70 in the Furman Intercollegiate to finish second individually in the event that featured seven SoCon institutions. The top league finisher, Cook’s three-round total of 212 placed him six strokes behind first-place finisher Blaine Pefflex of Maryland (206) and four strokes ahead of third-place finisher Neil O’Briain of Wofford.

Cook’s 212 is his fourth lowest three round output and ranks as the seventh-lowest in school history. The Murphy, NC, native now has 11 career top 10 finishes in 14 events.

Hill finished tied for seventh at the Mountain Hill Collegiate at the Mountain View Golf Club in Tucson, AZ. The sophomore fired a final-round 71 to finish the 54-hole event at two-over 218.

A native of Canton, OH, Hill leads the team and the league in stroke average (74.04) and now has finished in the top 10 in five tournaments.
