DAVIDSON, N.C. -- The Davidson women's tennis team saw its perfect 9-0 home record in dual matches come to an end when Boston University defeated the Wildcats by the score of 5-2 on Monday, Mar. 27 at Covington Courts. It was only Davidson's second lost in the past nine matches as the Wildcats dropped to 12-6 overall on the season. The Terriers improved to 11-4 overall with the non-conference win.
"We were so close and it was a hard fought match today for both teams," said head coach Caroline Price. "The doubles point could have gone either way, but we just could punch through in those two tie breakers."
Boston took the doubles point by sweeping the first, second, and third spots, but the Wildcats gave them a run for the point. Sophomores Kelsey Linville and Kim Whelan forced the first time breaker, falling in the end 9-8 to Gina Sabatino and Monica Shepherd.
Lora Dushanova and junior Kate Levitt also forced a tie breaker at the number three doubles position, but couldn't hold on either, falling 9-8 to Cori Lefkowith and Danielle Abraham.
The Wildcats then got wins Linville at number one singles and Dushanova at number six, but Boston was able to capture wins at two-thru-five for the 5-2 victory. Linville won her 11th singles dual match, defeating Erin Katims in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6, while Dushanova improved to 8-3 at number six singles and 11-3 overall in singles action with her 6-3, 6-4 win over Abraham.
Davidson will enjoy a four-day layoff before traveling to Johnson City, Tenn. Saturday, April 1 for a 1 p.m. match with East Tennessee State. The Terriers will also return to action Saturday as they battle Dartmouth on the road at noon.
