DAVIDSON, N.C. ? Despite dropping all three doubles matches, the Davidson men's tennis team was able to turn its play around in singles play and took five of the six singles matches for a 5-2 Southern Conference win over visiting UNC Greensboro on Monday, Mar. 27 at Covington Courts. The win snapped the Wildcats three-match losing streak and moved them back to .500 at 8-8 overall, while they improved to 2-4 in league play. UNCG suffered its 16th loss, falling to 2-16 overall and 0-6 in SoCon play.
For the third straight match, Davidson wasn't able to find the winning combination in doubles as the Wildcats dropped all three spots to fall behind 1-0 in the match.
Sophomore Flaviu Simihaian (Nasaud, Romania) and his fellow teams though, stepped up in singles play taking five of the six matches, including winning three tie breakers, for the 5-2 win. Simihaian won his second straight match at number one singles, taking two tie breakers for a three set win 7-6(4), 1-6, 7-6(4).
Playing their second straight matches at number four and six singles position, junior Jay Chitty (Shelby, N.C.) and sophomore Matt Hartman (Austin, Texas) each won their match. Chitty defeated Austin Wilty 6-2, 7-5 and Hartman took down Jason Steinhorn 7-6(5), 7-5. It was Chitty's third singles win of the year, while Hartman secured his second singles win.
For the first time in over a month, Davidson will hit the road for a match against cross-county rival Charlotte 49ers on Apr. 1 at 1 p.m.

Appalachian State 5, High Point 2
BOONE, N.C. ? The Appalachian State University men’s tennis team picked up its sixth win in seven matches, as the Mountaineers defeated High Point University, 5-2, Monday at the ASU Stadium Tennis Courts.
With the win ASU improves to 8-6 overall, while the Panthers drop to 8-9 this season. After snapping their five-game winning streak with a 6-1 loss to the College of Charleston Saturday, the Mountaineers have now won six of their last seven matches.
Sophomore Zack Williams (Hickory, N.C.) improved to 8-5 on the season with a come-from-behind, 4-6, 6-2 (7), victory over Dave Perren at No. 6 singles.
“The team came out and played hard,” Williams said. “When I was down 7-3, I was just thinking about my teammates and how I wanted to help them out. I’m glad I was able to pull the match out and do that.”
Junior Dimitar Dimitrov (Sofia, Bulgaria) and senior Andrew Waters (Durban, South Africa) helped the Apps clinch the doubles point with an 8-3 win over Benjamin Deloume and Henrik Almstrom at No. 2 doubles. Dimitrov picked up a singles with a 6-2, 7-6 defeat of Deloume at No. 3 singles. Waters clinched the match for Appalachian with a 7-6, 6-1 win over Bobby Brooke at No. 4 singles.
Senior Andrew Taylor (Parkland, Fla.) picked up two wins on the day. He teamed up with sophomore Robert Hogewood (Greensboro, N.C.) for an 8-3 win over Jim Trussler and Perren before defeating Trussler, 6-1, 6-4 at No. 5 singles.
The Mountaineers return to action as they head to Greenville, S.C. to take on Southern Conference foe Furman, Wednesday, March 29 at 2:30 p.m.
