Greenville, SC - The Furman women's tennis team improved to 10-6 on the year, 4-0 in conference play with a 7-0 win over non-conference opponent Samford Sunday afternoon. With the loss the Bulldogs fell to 7-4.
Furman quickly took the doubles point with Laura Gioia and Marti Morris winning their flight one match over Sarah McKey and Emily White and Lady Paladin teammates Lisa Bornt-Davis and Shannon Moore downing Whitnie Warren and Christie Baker in flight three both by a score of 8-1. Furman also won the flight two doubles match with Jacqueline Eckert and Lauren Osborne defeating Anna Jackson and Katie McMiller 9-8(6).
Furman went on to win all six singles matches to secure the shutout on the day. At No.1 Laura Gioia hit her way to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Anna Jackson while Marti Morris recorded a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Katie McMiller at No.2. In flight three Shannon Moore won her match over Emily White in a third set tiebreaker 6-2, 6-7(4), 10-4 and Bonnie Baird defeated Whitnie Warren 6-0, 6-3 in flight four. Jacqueline Eckert won her flight five match 6-2, 6-3 over Sarah McKey and in the flight six match Natasa Manojlovic posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Amber Dyar.
The Lady Paladins return to action on Saturday, April 1 when they travel to Chattanooga, TN for a 11:00 AM match against UT Chattanooga.

Cullowhee, N.C. - Western Carolina women's tennis team fell to the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon in non-conference action at the on-campus Catamount Athletic Complex.
In doubles, the Bucs duo of Polish senior Sylwia Ziolkowska and junior Masha Ilina from the Ukraine defeated Western's sophomore tandem of Trish Hanson and Spanish-born Mariona Trilla Jane, 8-2, in the number one position.The second-seeded pair of Susanna Sjokvist from Sweden and Holly Stocks for WCU dropped the only other contested doubles match in straight sets, 8-0, to Elena Volobueva (Spain) and Sandie Knight (Australia).
East Tennessee State swept the five contested singles matches, with the Bucs winning at number six by default. Hanson dropped the number one match by identical scores of 6-1 to ETSU's Olya Batsula. Sjokvist fought hard, losing the first set in a tie-breaker, 7-2, before dropping the second 6-1 to Volobueva. Trilla Jane fell 6-2, 6-1 at number three to Knight, with Stocks and freshman Carley Abbott combining to win one game at four and five, but dropping three of the four sets, 6-0.
Western Carolina will next host the Wofford Terriers at 2:30 pm on Wednesday, March 29 at the Catamount Athletic Complex in Southern Conference action.

Davidson 6, College of Charleston 1
The College of Charleston women's team dropped its first Southern Conference match of the year, falling to Davidson, 6-1, this afternoon at the tennis center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The Cougars fall to 9-8 overall and 4-1 in the SoCon, while the Wildcats improve to 12-5 and stay perfect in league play with a 4-0 mark.
Charleston played Davidson close in two of the three doubles matches as the duo of Chelsea Albertz and Payten Ellington fell in a close 8-6 match to Kelsey Linville and Kim Whelan at number one before Maxine Capewell and Ashley Finnegan dropped 8-7 to Lindsey Powel and Michele Fanney at number two. Davidson earned the doubles point, with the sweep.
The closest singles match of the day was at number five singles. Ellington fell in three sets to Meredith Skeeters at number five. The lone Cougar win was at number two where Albertz earned the 6-4, 6-2 win over Fanney. However, Davidson took five of six singles matches to earn the 6-1 overall win.
The College of Charleston is on the road for its next match, traveling to Appalachian State, Saturday, April 1st for a 10:00 AM match. Davidson hosts Boston Monday, March 27th at 1:30
Chattanooga 4, UNC Greensboro 3
GREENSBORO, NC ? Chattanooga won two of the three doubles matches to earn the afternoon’s first point and that wound up being the difference as the Mocs defeated UNC Greensboro, 4-3, in Southern Conference women’s tennis action on Saturday afternoon.
The teams split the six singles matches. The Mocs earned wins by Anastasia Zhukova, Lindsey Ballard and Beata Knizat at Nos. 1, 2 and 6. The Spartans picked up wins from Erica Zabkar, Lourdes Moran and Sophie Rychlik in the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 matches.
All three doubles pro-sets were decided by 8-1 scores, with Chattanooga winning two of them.
Zabkar, a sophomore from Atlanta, GA, had the easiest win of the afternoon, defeating Talita Bragato, 6-0 and 6-1.
UNCG returns to action on Wednesday when it visits in-state rival UNC Wilmington for a 2 pm match.

Wofford 4, Georgia Southern 3
Senior co-captain Ellen Rogers pulled through for the second-straight match for Wofford as the Terrier women's tennis slipped past Georgia Southern, 4-3, Sunday afternoon in Southern Conference action at the Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg, S.C.
Rogers, the reigning TIAA-CREF SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week, won her singles match at the No. 1 position 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 against Szilvia Zsakay in what was the deciding contest for the second-straight day. Rogers defeated her opponent from Appalachian State Saturday in the clincher, also in three sets.
The victory is Rogers' 10th of the season, tying her with sophomore Adriane Hodges for the team lead. The three-time All-Southern Conference honoree has now reached the double-digit win plateau in each of her four seasons.
Classmate and co-captain Tara Hartness garnered a 6-3, 6-4 triumph at the No. 2 slot versus Molly Maddox, while freshman Cayley Wetzig captured Wofford's other singles win with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Lauren Wolken at the No. 3 seed.
The Terriers tallied the doubles point via wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 contests. Hartness and Rogers posted an 8-5 triumph at the No. 1 match versus Maddox and Wolken. Wetzig paired with sophomore Lauren Prickett during the No. 3 contest and the duo topped Jessica Matlosz and Kimberly Wollett, 8-4.
Wofford improves its overall record to 10-7 and Southern Conference mark to 4-1 with the victory, while the Lady Eagles drop to 4-11 overall and 1-4 in the league. The Terriers have won at least 10 matches for the fifth time in six seasons under head coach Rod Ray.
A trip to Cullowhee, N.C., for a meeting with Western Carolina at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday is next on the docket for Wofford.
