Winston-Salem, NC - The 15th ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team shut out 69th ranked Furman 7-0 Monday at Leighton Tennis Stadium. The win moved the Deacons to 7-2 on the year with the Paladins dropping to 5-8.
Wake Forest grabbed the early momentum after winning all three doubles matches, giving them the 1-0 lead. In flight one Andrew Hamar and Todd Paul defeated Greg Maarschalk and Ben Pauluhn 8-5 while fellow Deacons Mariusz Adamski and Cory Parr downed Brian Crook and Bo Ladyman 8-2 at No.2. In the flight three match Brett Ross teamed with Charles Sartor for an 8-7(7) win over Scott Kahler and Will Kieffer. Wake Forest put away the match quickly picking up straight set victories in all six singles matches.
The Paladins return to action on Saturday, March 11 for a double header against South Carolina State and Gardner-Webb in Greenville, SC. Match times are set for 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM respectively.

ROCK HILL, S.C. ? The Appalachian State University men’s tennis team fell to Winthrop, 7-0, Wednesday, March 1 at the Memorial Courts in Rock Hill.
With the loss, the Mountaineers drop to 2-2 on the season, while the Eagles improve to 3-3 overall.
Junior Dimitar Dimitrov (Sofia, Bulgaria) came the closest for the Mountaineers, winning the first set over Alejandro Portugal, 3-6. Portugal fought back to defeat Dimitrov, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
Sophomore Zack Williams (Hickory, N.C.) suffered his first loss of the season, falling to Thiago Barbosa, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 6 singles.
The Mountaineers return to action as they head to Spartanburg, S.C. to take on Wofford, Friday, March 3 at 2 p.m.

ELON, N.C. ? Gustaf Asplund knocked off Zvi Lantsberg 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, clinching a 6-1 non-conference men’s tennis triumph for the Phoenix over Charlotte ? Elon’s sixth consecutive victory ? Thursday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
In addition to Asplund (5-3), the Phoenix (6-2) also received singles victories from Anuwat Dalodom (3-0) at No. 2 (6-4, 6-1 over Ryan Johnson), Sebastian Bredberg (6-2) at No. 3 (6-4, 6-3 over Dorian Host), Austin Fenn (4-4) at No. 5 (6-3, 6-4 over Stuart Lynas) and Kevin Colin (6-2) at No. 6 (6-2, 2-6, 6-3 over Jonathan Vencatachellum).
The 49ers (5-6) scored at No. 1 singles when No. 81 Roy Sichel staved off Damon Gooch (5-3) for a 6-2, 7-5 win. Charlotte also enjoyed success at No. 2 doubles when Sichel and Host overcame Bredberg and Colin by an 8-7(5) margin.
Elon opened the match by capturing the doubles point, thanks to victories at No. 1 and No. 3. At No. 1, Gooch and Fenn needed only 28 minutes to defeat Lynas and Johnson 8-0 while Dalodom and Asplund topped Vencatachellum and Felix Bernhoerster 8-2 at No. 3.
“The match at No. 1 doubles is by far the best match that we’ve played all season,” said Phoenix coach Michael Leonard. “We are looking forward to the challenges awaiting us in our next match.”
North Carolina hosts Charlotte at 11 a.m. Saturday. Elon, 4-0 at home this season, will leave the friendly confines of the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center when it visits North Carolina State at 10 a.m. Sunday.
College of Charleston 7, Xavier 0
The College of Charleston men’s tennis teams swept all matches to take the 7-0 win over Xavier, while the women’s team won the doubles point and four of six singles to defeat Xavier, 5-2, in action this afternoon at the tennis center at Patriots Point in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
The women’s team improves to 2-6 on the year while the men’s team goes to 4-1.
The closest match for the men today was a 7-5, 6-1 win by Marcos Digliodo over Jeremy Miller at number two singles.
On the women’s side Xavier took victories at number one and three singles, but could not pick up any others and fell 5-2. CofC’s Amanda Becker fell to Kara Courtney in three sets at number three singles.
The Cougar men’s team hosts UNC Greensboro Mar. 4th at 1:00 PM, while the women’s team faces Chattanooga Mar. 3rd at 3:00 PM.
