JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Appalachian State University men's tennis improved its record to 4-5 with a 7-0 win at Jacksonville Saturday morning.
Appalachian swept the doubles play with Ryan Brookshaw and Alex Probst defeated Marcos Oliveira and Clay Garrett, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles.
At No. 2 doubles, Dimitar Dimitrov and Andrew Waters combined to defeat Cory Garrett and Tim Newman, 8-1. Robert Hogewood and Andrew Taylor downed Tyler Thomas and Matt Kampfe, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, the Dolphins failed to win a set as the Apps cruised in all six matches.
At No. 1, Probst defeated Oliveira, 6-3, 6-0. Brookshaw downed Clay Garrett, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 2.
Cory Garrett fell to Dimitrov, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3, while Waters had little trouble with Newman, cruising 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4.
At No. 5, Taylor beat Thomas, 6-0, 6-0 while Williams bested Kampfe 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 to preserve ASU's easy win.
The Apps return to action on Monday, March 20 with a non-conference match versus Morehead State at 2 p.m.
Richmond 5, UNC Greensboro 2
RICHMOND, VA ? UNC Greensboro’s duo of Martin Redelinghuys and Austin Wilty both won singles matches in straight sets but Richmond won two three-set matches to clinch a 5-2 win over the Spartans in men’s tennis action Saturday afternoon.
Redelinghuys cruised past Matt Stillwagon, 6-2 and 6-0. Wilty, a freshman from Chamblee, GA, knocked off Michael Sommer, 6-4 and 6-1. However, the Spiders got three-set singles’ wins from Doug Banker and Chris Louis to clinch the team victory.
UNCG returns to action on Wednesday when it visits East Carolina at 2 pm.

Elon 6, Coastal Carolina 1
CONWAY, S.C. ? Elon claimed eight of the nine matches Saturday afternoon en route to a 6-1 non-league men's tennis triumph over Coastal Carolina ? for its 10th victory in 11 contests ? at the Billy Nichols Tennis Center.
The Phoenix (10-3) swept the three doubles bouts from the Chanticleers (11-4) and then proceeded to capture five of the six singles matches. Elon, 5-17 last season, has already doubled its win total from the 2005 campaign.
Elon received singles victories by Damon Gooch (over David Mellis 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1), Sebastian Bredberg (over Simon Taylor 6-4, 6-0 at No. 3), Gustaf Asplund (over Andy Caress 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4), Austin Fenn (over Richard Redding 6-3, 7-6 (10-8) at No. 5) and Kevin Colin (over Brian Dowis 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 6). At No. 2, CCU's Elliott Quibell edged Anuwat Dalodom 6-4, 7-6 (9-7).
In doubles action, Gooch and Fenn topped Quibell and Redding 8-3 at No. 1, Dalodom and Asplund foiled Caress and Taylor 8-6 at No. 2 and Colin and Bredberg downed Dowis and Mellis 8-3 at No. 3.
"Elon is the strongest team we've played this season," said Coastal Carolina head coach Chris Powers. "They were ready to play today."
The Phoenix will return to Southern Conference play with a 1 p.m. match at College of Charleston Sunday. The Chants host non-conference opponent Ohio State at 2 p.m. Monday.
