DAVIDSON, N.C. ? Senior Daniel Bermeo (Quito, Ecuador) battled back from a 4-1 deficit in his second set tie breaker to win 7-5 and then secured the match for the Wildcats with a 6-3 third set win and the Davidson men's tennis team finished the weekend with a 2-0 showing after clinching a 4-3 victory over the visiting Richmond Spiders on Sunday, Mar. 12. After dropping three straight, the Wildcats have now won their last two matches and improved to 7-5 overall with the non-conference win. The Spiders dropped to 7-10 overall on the year.
Richmond grabbed the doubles point after sweeping all three matches. In singles play, sophomore Flaviu Simihaian (Nasaud, Romania) and freshman Ethan Jaffee (Indianapolis, Ind.) gave Davidson a 2-1 lead with victories at number one and three singles. Jaffee earned his team leading eighth singles win of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Matt Stillwagon.
Then, after Richmond tied things up at 3-3 with wins at number four and five singles, Bermeo took home the victory for the Wildcats with his three set match win over Bobby McNally.
Also winning for the second straight match was freshman Scott Myers (West Palm Beach, Fla.), who was victorious at number six singles, 6-3, 6-3, for his sixth win of the season in singles play.
Davidson continues on with its seven-match homestand when the Wildcats play host to Southern Conference foe Wofford on Mar. 15 at 2 p.m.

STATESBORO, Ga. ?“ The Eagles clinched the match with a come-from-behind win at No. 6 singles, as the Appalachian State University men’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 heartbreaker to Georgia Southern, Sunday, in Southern Conference play at Hanner Courts.
After dropping the doubles point by taking one of three doubles matches from Georgia Southern, Appalachian State won three of the first five singles bouts to tie the match at three. At No. 6 singles, the deciding match, sophomore Zack Williams (Hickory, N.C.) went up on Jake Hanusz with a 6-2 win in the first set. Hanusz fought back in dramatic fashion, taking the second set, 7-5. The match came down to the third set of the match, as the two battled before Hanusz came out on top, 7-6 (7-5), to give GSU the win.
With the loss the Mountaineers drop to 2-5 on the season and 0-3 in the Southern Conference, extending their losing streak to four matches. The Eagles improve to 2-5 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
Junior Dimitar Dimitrov (Sofia, Bulgaria) and senior Andrew Waters (Durban, South Africa) each picked up two wins on the day, as the duo picked up an 8-5 win over Neil Shine and Hanusz at No. 2 doubles. Dimitrov defeated Joris De Weerdt, 6-0, 6-1, at No. 3 singles, while Waters took down Daniel Harden, 6-0, 6-4, at No. 4 singles.
Sophomore Ryan Brookshaw (Pretoria, South Africa) picked up the other singles win for ASU as he defeated Philip Prins, 6-1, 6-1.
The Mountaineers will spend their spring break in Jacksonville, Fla., this week, as they start by taking on Mercer, Tuesday, March 14 at 1 p.m. They will then face Bethune-Cookman March 17 at 1 p.m. and Jacksonville March 18 at 10 a.m.
