TALLAHASSEE, FL - Appalachian State University softball split a pair of games on the final day of the Florida State Invitational, finishing the tournament with a 2-4 record.
The Mountaineers won their first game of the day, 5-3, over Georgia State in Silver Bracket (third and fourth place teams in each pool) play. With the win, ASU advanced to face Troy, but fell to the Trojans 2-1 in the final game.

Eastern Kentucky 4, Western Carolina 3
ROCK HILL, SC - Eastern Kentucky plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth and in the bottom of the seventh to edge Western Carolina, 4-3, Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the Silver bracket at the 2006 adidas/Winthrop Invitational.
Western dropped to 13-9 overall, but went 3-2 in tournament action and made its first-ever appearance in a season tournament championship game.
WCU sophomore Heather Pritchard led the Catamounts on the day going 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the top of the second inning. She was named to the Winthrop Invitational All-Tournament team, hitting 7-for-12 over the three days with a double, home run, and two RBI.
Freshman pitcher Mendy McKenzie was saddled with the loss despite holding the Colonels hitless through the first three and two-thirds and striking out three on the day.

UNC Greensboro 2, Gardner-Webb 0
ROCK HILL, SC ? UNC Greensboro pushed across two runs in the first inning and that was all the Spartans needed for a 2-0 victory over Gardner-Webb in the third and final day of the Winthrop Invitational on Sunday at Terry Field.
Junior Jennifer Bonilla doubled in classmate Adrian Audley, who reached on a lead-off single, to give UNCG (7-13) a 1-0 lead. Senior Kelly Allen followed with a single to center to plate Bonilla for what proved to be the final run of the game.
Junior right-hander Vanessa Oakes made the lead stand up as she cruised through seven innings, allowing a mere three hits and struck out six to post the clubs first shutout of the season and seventh of her career.
Heather Branche went 2-for-3 with a double to pace the Spartans seven-hit attack.
Senior Gwen Johnson was named to the All-Tournament team after hitting .538 with three home runs, seven runs and eight RBI.
