CONWAY, S.C. ? The Appalachian State University women’s tennis team suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Coastal Carolina, 6-1, Sunday at the Billy Nichol’s Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Mountaineers drop to 4-1 on the season, while the Chanticleers remain perfect on the season at 9-0.

Senior Victoria Moody (Irmo, S.C.) picked up the lone Mountaineer win on the day, defeating Petra Jantti, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 3 singles. Moody remains undefeated in singles play this season at 4-0.

Appalachian opens home play hosting East Carolina, Saturday, March 4 at 10 a.m.

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. --- The women’s tennis team won three singles matches and the doubles point Sunday to edge Lipscomb 4-3. The match was played at the Champion’s Club in Hixson, Tenn.

The Lady Mocs, now 2-5 on the year, swept all three doubles matches to claim the doubles point and a 1-0 lead.

Thee singles wins for UTC clinched the victory. The Lady Mocs won at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 4 singles. Anastasia Zhukova, ranked No. 100 in the nation, remained undefeated in the dual season with a 6-4, 6-0 win over Erin Moakler at No. 1. Lindsey Ballard defeated Olivia Ellis at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2, and Bonnie Adams dispatched of Caitlin Khouri at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2.

The Bison claimed wins at No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6.

The Lady Mocs return to action Wednesday, hosting Alabama A&M. The match begins at 3 p.m. and will be played at the UTC Tennis Complex.
