The Citadel 4, Wofford 3
A doubles point win and two singles victories were not enough Friday afternoon as the Wofford men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to The Citadel at the Reeves Center in Spartanburg, S.C. The Bulldogs rallied in the match and earned four singles triumphs to post their third-straight 4-3 win against the Terriers.
The decisive match was at the No. 4 slot, where The Citadel's David Lara held off Scott Collins, 7-5, 6-7, 6-3.
Wofford started the day's action by claiming two of the three doubles contests to win the doubles point. During the No. 1 match, senior Chris Barlow and sophomore Andrew Stubbs knocked off Daniel Dossetor and Derek Jose, 8-1.
The Terriers then garnered a win at the No. 3 slot, where sophomore Michael Barber and junior Alex Fridzon posted an 8-3 triumph versus Lara and Nick Medica.
Stubbs, the current SoCon Player of the Week, then tallied a come-from-behind three-set win against Dossetor at No. 1 singles, winning 4-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Barlow was also victorious in his singles contest, earning a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Ananda Sawmynaden at the No. 2 position.
The loss drops Wofford's record to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the Southern Conference. The Bulldogs improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.
