Chattanooga Sweeps Twinbill From Lady Railsplitters

CHATTANOOGA, TN - Chattanooga swept the Lady Railsplitters Thursday afternoon in a rescheduled double-header, 3-2 and 10-0 at Frost Stadium.

Ashleigh Bull went 4-for-6 on the day with a home run and three RBI and Tara Tembey drove in five runs on two hits including a homerun and a double.

In the first game, the Lady Mocs put two runs on the board in the first inning with a lead off double followed by Tembey’s homerun over the fence in straightaway centerfield. Lincoln Memorial tied it up on a home run of its own in the fourth.

Chattanooga pitcher JayCee Wood and the Lady Mocs’ defense got out the first nine batters through three innings. In the fourth with one out, Danielle Sowders drew a walk and then the pitcher Brittney Walker sent a homerun over the right field fence to tie it up 4-4.

The Lady Railsplitters allowed just one hit in 18 at bats before Chattanooga tallied a pair of singles and a walk to push across the go-ahead run in the sixth. With two outs, Bull hit a single through the right side and Brittney Whittier drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Toni Hutchison’s single plated Bull to give UTC a 3-2 lead.

Wood struck out two and got Amanda Wampler to pop up to get the win. Wood improves to 3-2 on the year.

In game two, the Lady Mocs put three runs on the board in each of the first three innings and its 10th in the fourth to run-rule LMU to improve to 4-6 on the year.

With two runners on base, Bull knocked a moon shot over the fence putting three runs on the board with no outs. In the second inning, Amanda Hoiness drew a walk with two outs and immediately stole second to get into scoring position. Ashley Cuticchia sent one up the middle scoring Hoiness from second and then stole second on the first pitch to Tembey. She sent a double to right field scoring Cuticchia and then advanced to third on a single by Bull. Brittney Whittier’s single to right center plated Tembey and put the Lady Mocs up 6-0 after two innings.

Chattanooga put three runs on the board in the third on two hits and two errors, then added one more in the fourth on an error and a base hit. Ashley Frizzell, picking up her first win of the season, struck out six batters and gave up just two walks in the five inning shutout. Stewart gave up 10 runs, five earned on eight hits striking out two and walking a pair.

Chattanooga will host the eight-team Panera Bread Challenge this weekend at Frost Stadium beginning Friday morning at 10:00 a.m.
