SPARTANBURG, SC -- Appalachian State’s Anja Gugger has been named Southern Conference Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 20.

The junior from Cary, NC, has helped Appalachian to a perfect 4-0 start to the 2006 season and has been instrumental in both No.1 singles and No. 1 doubles play for the Mountaineers. Gugger is a perfect 3-0 in No.1 singles play as well as being 3-0 in No.1 doubles play.

Last week, Gugger recorded two No.1 singles wins against UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb, winning both of her matches in straight sets. She was also dominant in No.1 doubles play, as she helped Appalachian to victories over the same two opponents.

Gugger and the Mountaineers return to the court on Saturday, February 25 as Appalachian travels to UNC Wilmington to take on the Seahawks in a match slated for noon.
