The Southern Conference today named Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson as the Baden SoCon Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played between February 14-20. It is a league-high tying third Player of the Week honor for Anderson in the 2005-06 season.

In Chattanooga’s two victories last week, Anderson shot 67 percent (12-for-18) from the field and averaged 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in Chattanooga’s two wins over College of Charleston and Georgia Southern. In Chattanooga’s victory over the Cougars, Anderson tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The Stone Mountain, GA, native followed that up with a seven block performance in the Lady Mocs’ win over Georgia Southern. The sophomore’s seven blocks tallied broke a 25-year-old single-game school record held by Tina Chairs (5) and moved her to 92 total blocks for her career. The 92 blocks accumulated in her two years with the Lady Mocs leave her six shy of Chairs’ all-time mark of 98.

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Appalachian State’s Greteya Kelley (17.0 ppg, 5.5 rpg in 2-0 week), Davidson’s Jessica Mitchell (14.5 ppg, 4.5 apg, 2.5 spg in 2-0 week), Elon’s Kitara McMoore (14.0 ppg, 7.0 rpg in losses to Davidson and UNCG), Western Carolina’s Monique Dawson (18 points, including 6-for-9 from field in win over CofC on Monday) and Wofford’s Nakia Mister (15.5 ppg, 6.5 rpg in losses to Appalachian State and Davidson).
