Chattanooga 64, Appalachian State 50
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - Charles Anderson and Casey Long combined for 29 points to lead Chattanooga past cold shooting Appalachian State 64-50 Monday night.
Chattanooga (16-12, 7-6 Southern Conference) had a first-half 11-0 run and never trailed, pushing ahead 22-9, ending on a Long free throw with 6:46 left in the half.
Appalachian State shot only 30.2 percent from the field and hit 5-of-8 from the free-throw line. The Mocs made 21-of-31 from the line.
Appalachian got as close as 38-36 with 13:28 left on a D.J. Thompson 3-pointer, but Chattanooga answered by scoring 10 of the next 11 points, ending at 48-37.
The Mocs pushed the lead to as big as 16 points, ending on an Anderson layup with 7:05 left, 57-41.
Anderson led Chattanooga with 15 points and eight rebounds. Long added 14 points and Keddric Mays netted 11.
Thompson scored 20 for Appalachian State and Jeremy Clayton grabbed 11 rebounds.
Furman 64, The Citadel 41
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Robby Bostain had 11 points and 14 rebounds as Furman beat The Citadel 64-41 on Monday night.
The Paladins (15-11, 8-6 Southern Conference) took their first lead of the game on Jadee Jones' 3-pointer with just under five minutes to go in the first half.
Furman would then go on a 20-6 run and led 30-17 with just under 15 minutes to go in the game.
The Bulldogs (7-20, 0-14) cut the deficit to nine with 10:33 to go, but the Paladins ended the game on a 26-12 run to hold The Citadel to its lowest point total of the season.
The Bulldogs have lost four in a row and 17 of their last 18 games.
Dante Terry scored 12 points to lead The Citadel, while J'Mel Everhart added six points and seven rebounds.
Eric Webb led Furman with 13 points, while Tony Carter added seven points and seven rebounds.
