GSU's Nesbitt Repeats as SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named Georgia Southern’s Elton Nesbitt as the Anaconda’s The Rock Player of the Week for games played between February 7-13.  It is the second straight week that Nesbitt has won the award, and is also the third time this season that he has captured the honor.

 

Nesbitt, a 5-9, 165 lb. guard from Deerfield Beach, FL, averaged 30.5, 4.0 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game in a pair of wins over The Citadel and College of Charleston.  He connected on 57 percent of his shots from the floor and 95 percent from the free throw line.  In addition, Nesbitt was successful on 9-of-15 shots (60 percent) from beyond the arc.  Nesbitt opened the weekend with a 31-point outing in a win over the Bulldogs in 25 minutes of action, going 8-for-11 from the field and 10-for-10 from the charity stripe.  He capped off the week with a 30-point performance in a road win over the Cougars, with 17 of them coming in the first half.  Nesbitt has led the Eagles in scoring in 18 of the last 21 games, including four 30-point games in his last six contests and 15 games of 20 or more points.

 

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Appalachian State’s Jeremy Clayton (career-high 17 points and added four blocks in win over Elon), Davidson’s Jason Morton (career-high 27 points in win at The Citadel), Elon’s Scottie Rice (averaged 13.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg in two games), Western Carolina’s Corey Muirhead (career-best 28 points in loss to Appalachian State) and Wofford’s Howard Wilkerson (averaged 22.5 points and 8.0 rebounds in two games).
