SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Davidson’s Jessica Mitchell has been named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of December 12.

Mitchell, a senior from Wilkesboro, N.C., led the Wildcats to a 75-69 win over cross-county rival Charlotte on Saturday.  In Davidson’s only game of the week she matched her career-high in points with 23 and was 7-of-10 from the field including 5-of-8 from three-point range.  The guard also recorded four rebounds, three assists and her third blocked shot of the season.

On the week, Mitchell averaged 23.0 points per game and shot 70 percent from the field.  She is among the league’s leaders in assists average with 3.10 per game.

Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Jaime Bennett, Elon’s Nikko King, Western Carolina’s Kendra Eaton and Wofford’s Kathlyn Varno.
