SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference today named its Football Players of the Week for games played on November 4. Appalachian State’s Kevin Richardson and Wofford’s Michael Hobbs were selected the Offensive Co-Players of the Week while Elon’s Chad Nkang earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor. Chattanooga’s Erroll Wynn earned the Freshman of the Week award.

Richardson, a 5-9, 180-pound junior from Elizabethtown, N.C., led the Mountaineers to a 42-13 win over The Citadel and the SoCon title. The running back ran for 148 yards, his fifth 100 rushing yard game in the last six. His three touchdowns was his fourth triple scoring game of the year and sixth of his career. He also had a career-long 79-yard touchdown run on the third play of the game.

Hobbs,  a 5-10, 195-pound junior from Andalusia, Ala., led the Terriers to a 28-10 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday. The fullback recorded 111 yards and one touchdown. Hobbs tied the NCAA, SoCon and Wofford record for longest touchdown with a 99-yard scoring run in the fourth quarter to seal the win for Wofford. He also became the first back in Southern Conference football history to have a 99-yard rush from scrimmage.

Other top performers included Chattanooga’s Erroll Wynn, Furman’s Cedrick Gipson and Western Carolina’s Darius Fudge.

Elon's Chad Nkang

Nkang, a 6-1, 218-pound senior from Hyattsville, Md., led Elon’s defensive effort on Saturday. The linebacker recorded a season-high 16 tackles, including six solo stops, and added a game high two and a half tackles for loss for 18 yards. Nkang leads the league averaging 12.11 tackles per contest, fourth best in the NCAA I-AA statistics.

Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Marques Murrell, Chattanooga’s Ronnie Jackson, Georgia Southern’s John Mohring and Wofford’s Brandon Berry.

Wynn, a 5-11, 205-pound true freshman from Jonesboro, Ga., stepped in for an injured Eldra Buckley and set career highs in his most extensive playing time of the season. The running back recorded a career-high 131 yards on 23 carries on the ground and caught two passes for seven yards. He also returned one kickoff for 19 yards and averaged 5.7 yards per carry.

Other top performer included Appalachian State’s Armanti Edwards.
