Cullowhee, N.C. ? Two late second half goals lifted three-seeded Furman past number seven-seeded Georgia Southern 2-0 in the first semifinal match of the 2006 Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament at Catamount Athletic Complex on the campus of Western Carolina University on Friday.
Junior Emily Krankowski put the Lady Paladins on top 1-0 at the 72:53 mark. She netted her third goal of the season after she out ran the Georgia Southern defense and pushed the ball past goalkeeper Lauren Santos.
Furman sealed the win at the 85:28 mark when all-conference first-team member Anna Betton accepted a cross from freshman Margaret Antonik and found the back of the net to put Furman up 2-0. The goal was Betton’s 13th on the season.
Georgia Southern ends its season with a 5-5-0 conference record and an overall record of 8-11-1.
Furman improves to 6-3-1 in conference play and 11-9-1 overall.
Furman advances to the championship match on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. at Catamount Athletic Complex in Cullowhee, N.C. The Lady Paladins will take on the winner of top-seeded UNC Greensboro and fifth-seeded Western Carolina.
