SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that UNC Greensboro’s Jasmine Byrd has been named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of November 28.

Byrd, a senior from Dumfries, Va., was named the UNCG Thanksgiving Tournament MVP after helping the Spartans win the tournament and improve to 4-1 on the season.  The guard was eight-for-11 from the field and recorded 22 points in the 81-50 win over Longwood on Friday.  She scored 23 points including six three-pointers and grabbed six rebounds in the Spartans 72-68 victory over Big East opponent Providence on Saturday.

On the week, Byrd averaged 22.5 points per game and a .536 field goal percentage.  She leads the league in scoring average with 20.4 points per game.

Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Whitney Tossie, Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson, College of Charleston’s Jade Hughes, Davidson’s Katie Hamilton, Elon’s Tierra Bumbrey, Furman’s Jessica Lange, Georgia Southern’s Ashley Rivens, Western Carolina’s Monique Dawson and Wofford’s Kelsi Koenig.
