WOMEN’S RUNNER OF THE WEEK

Brittany Johnson? Furman

Freshman ? Cary, N.C., (Green Hope High School)

Brittany won The Citadel Invitational last weekend in a time of 18:38 leading a field of 75 runners on the James Island County Park course.

Eleven teams competed in the event that included SoCon rivals College of Charleston and The Citadel.  Brittany won by 21 seconds and won for the second time this season in establishing herself as Furman's number one runner.

 

Other top performers:

Karen Corson, Fr, College of Charleston (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) Karen finished second to Brittany Johnson at The Citadel Invitational last weekend, finishing in 18:59 and leading the Cougars to a second place finish in the eleven-team field.  This was Karen's second 2nd place finish of the season and has three top five finishes on the year. 

 

Lanni Marchant, Sr, Chattanooga (London, Ontario) Lanni finished second in a field of 273 at the Greater Louisville Classic last weekend.  There were 31 teams in the meet that included Kentucky, Louisville, Ga. Tech Vanderbilt and South Florida.  Lanni's time of 17:33 led her team to a second place finish on the course that will host the NCAA's Southeast Regional championships in November. The London, Ontario Canada native has a 3.86 GPA and is majoring in accounting.  Lanni was an NCAA qualifier last spring in the 10,000 meters and was the SoCon runner-up in 2004.
