Furman's Jordan Sorrells Picks-up TIAA-CREF Student-Athlete of the Week Honor

Spartanburg, S.C. -- The Southern Conference today named Furman football player Jordan Sorrells as the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of October 25.

Sorrells, a redshirt freshman quarterback from Greenville, S.C., was named the Co-Freshman of the Week this week after he led the Paladins to a 28-22 overtime win over Chattanooga on Saturday.  In just his second career start, Sorrells completed 22-of-29 passes for a career-high 335 yards and two touchdowns. He engineered a 10 play, 69 yard drive with 1:39 left in regulation to set up a Scott Beckler game-tying field goal. He completed the game-winning strike to Cedrick Gipson in the first overtime period. His 335 yards passing tied the Furman passing yardage mark for a freshman and is fifth highest in single game totals in school history.

Off the field, Sorrells boasts a 3.33 GPA and is majoring in political science.  He was named to the 2005-06 Southern Conference Honor Roll.
