SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that UNC Greensboro’s Shannon Donovan has been named the Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of October 16.

Donovan, a senior midfielder from Melville, N.Y., helped lead the Spartans last week to a 2-0 record and to remain unbeaten in conference play.  She recorded one assist in UNC Greensboro’s 2-0 win over Appalachian State on Thursday.  To close out the week against Davidson on Sunday, she notched two goals and one assist to lead the Spartans to a 4-1 victory.

On the week, Donovan tallied six points on two goals and two assists in two matches for the Spartans.  She is among the league’s leaders in assists and points per match.

Other top performers include Chattanooga’s Stacey Matthiessen, College of Charleston’s Chrissy Caruso, Davidson’s Kristen Koehrn, Elon’s Alisa Petitt, Western Carolina’s Kelly Gulledge and Wofford’s Whitney Steelman.
