SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Michael FitzGerald has been named the Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for October 17.

FitzGerald, a senior from Wilmington, N.C., led the Spartans last week with two goals, both against rival College of Charleston. The midfielder knocked in the first goal of the night 18 minutes into the match to give the Spartans the 1-0 lead. He then tallied the game-winner with just under six minutes left in the second overtime period for the 2-1 win. Both of his goals were assisted by Mike Richardson.

FitzGerald tallied four points on two goals last week. He is among the conference leaders in points and goals.

Other top performers from last week include College of Charleston’s Jeremy Gold and Furman’s Chris Davis.
