Georgia Southern Tops Wofford 2-0 in Men's Soccer Action

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford men's soccer team surrendered a goal in each half in losing 2-0 to visiting Georgia Southern Tuesday afternoon at Snyder Field in Spartanburg, S.C.

The Eagles struck first early in the first stanza as Jason Tindall one-timed a crossing pass from Jon Cox past Terrier goalkeeper Russ Sandifer from 25 yards out at 5:03.

Wofford (2-11-1, 0-5 SoCon) nearly tied the match when a loose ball in the six-yard box was gathered by Nick Schuermann, only to deflect wide off the left post.

After the intermission and the score still 1-0 GSU, the Terriers had another chance to score as Reed Blair's header went just high 46 seconds into the half.

Georgia Southern added the insurance tally at 57:30 when Ben Reine fired a rocket from 40 yards out into the upper left corner as Sandifer was battling the setting sun in his eyes.

Cox and Danny Hall each had four shots for the Eagles, as they outshot the Terriers, 23-11. GSU keeper Adam Webb collected six saves for the shutout, while Sandifer stopped nine Georgia Southern (7-3-3, 3-1-2 SoCon) attempts.

The Terriers will next play at 6 p.m. Saturday when they host Furman at Snyder Field. The contest will be the third-straight home game for Wofford.
