CofC's Dontaye Draper Tabbed SoCon Men's Basketball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named College of Charleston’s Dontaye Draper as the Anaconda’s The Rock Player of the Week for games played between December 20-January 2.

Draper, a 5-11 guard from Baltimore, MD, averaged 22.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game in the Cougars 4-2 record over the holiday. Draper earned two all-tournament honors, one at Louisville’s tournament and the other at CofC’s Holiday Classic, where he garnered MVP honors. The junior, who averaged 17.5 points at U of L, scored a career-high 33 points in a win at UNC Wilmington on 12-of-18 shooting and then tallied 30 points on 11-of-18 shooting in a win over Rider in the title game of the Cougars’ tournament.

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Appalachian State’s D.J. Thompson (19.3 ppg average in three games), Chattanooga’s Keddric Mays (17.3 ppg and 19 3s over a four-game span), Davidson’s Ian Johnson (20.5 ppg, 4.5 rpg in two games), Elon’s Colin Wyatt (15 points, five rebounds in win at Clemson), UNC Greensboro’s Ricky Hickman (23 points versus top-ranked Duke) and Wofford’s Howard Wilkerson (27 points, 10 rebounds in loss at Notre Dame).
