Southern Conference Internship Opportunities

 

The Southern Conference, an NCAA Division I Athletic Conference in Spartanburg, South Carolina, will offer paid internships for the upcoming 2007-08 academic year.  Candidates must have the ability to work within the framework of Southern Conference and NCAA regulations. The individuals chosen will have duties as assigned by the Commissioner, their direct supervisor and the internship coordinator. These internships, however, will offer a comprehensive experience in all areas of conference administration.

 

Southern Conference internships could include opportunities working in the following focus areas:   

 

?         Championships: Assigned tasks will include, but are not limited to, assisting the Senior Associate Commissioner with the administration of 18 Conference championship events;

 

?         Marketing: Assigned tasks will include, but are not limited to, assisting the Assistant Commissioner for Marketing and Development with the administration of the Conference marketing program and the fulfillment of the development program;

 

?         Rules Compliance: Assigned tasks will include, but are not limited to, assisting the Associate Commissioner for Compliance in the administration of Conference and NCAA rules compliance;

 

?         Student Services: Assigned tasks will include, but are not limited to, assisting the Associate Commissioner for Internal Affairs with student-athlete welfare issues;

 

?         Public Affairs:  Assigned tasks will include, but are not limited to, assisting the Assistant Commissioner for Public Affairs with compiling and managing league statistics for selected sports, producing press releases and completing NCAA reporting forms;

 

?         Internal Operations: Assigned tasks will include, but are not limited to, assisting the Associate Commissioner for Internal Affairs with daily office operations and organization.

 

Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree (advanced degree candidate preferred), have a background in athletics and/or athletics administration, and must have strong communication, organizational, and computer skills. Applicants must have initiative and drive to complete tasks as assigned, working independently to meet conference deadlines. It is also preferred that the candidates have experience in championships administration, marketing, compliance, or media relations.
