SoCon Women's Basketball Notes For January 24

Keep It Going

The Chattanooga Lady Mocs have not seen the losing side of a box score since November 25. Wes Moore’s club is in the midst of one of the longest winning streaks in the nation after winning its 14th straight on Monday against Furman in Greenville. The 14 straight wins place them third-best in the nation behind only Duke (19) and North Carolina (18).

All Good Things Must End

Elon’s Kitara McMoore has compiled a league-best eight double-doubles in the 2005-06 season. McMoore had garnered six consecutive double-doubles before seeing her streak end in a loss to UNC Greensboro on Saturday. McMoore narrowly missed seeing the feat extended, as she finished the loss with 14 points and eight rebounds.

One Away

UNC Greensboro’s game last Monday against College of Charleston marked the 700th game for Lynne Agee at the helm of the Spartans’ program. Agee, who two weeks ago recorded her 525th win overall, has 99 career SoCon victories and with one more will join Wes Moore and Rusty Cram as the only head coaches to ever accomplish the feat in the league. Agee can join Moore and Cram on Tuesday, Jan. 24, when the Lady Spartans host Wofford at Fleming Gym.

UNCG Hold ?Em

The Spartans surrendered just 35 points to Elon in a 56-35 conference win on Saturday. The 35 points given up by UNC Greensboro were the least points that the program has allowed in the NCAA Division I era of the institution, besting the previous record of 36 points given up by UNCG in win over North Carolina A&T on January 19, 2000.

Still One Away

Furman head coach Sam Dixon has been staring at win No. 60 as the man in charge of the Lady Paladin program for over two weeks, as the Lady Paladins have not chalked up a win since January 9. Furman right now is in the midst of a six-game slide, the longest for the Lady Paladin program since a period that saw the Paladins drop 11 consecutive league games between Jan. 29, 1987 until Jan. 23 1988. Nevertheless, that year the Lady Paladins never surrendered more than five games in a row .

One More

Davidson’s Brynn Kelly became the first women’s basketball player in the league to win Player of the Week that did not play for Chattanooga or Elon. A Chattanooga player has earned the nod a league-high four times, with Alex Anderson (twice), Katasha Brown and Brooke Hand all earning the accolade, while Elon’s Kitara McMoore has tallied the award three times in the 2005-06 season thus far.
