Davidson's Brynn Kelly Named Baden SoCon Women's Basketball Player Of The Week

The Southern Conference today named Davidson’s Brynn Kelly as the Baden SoCon Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played between January 17-23.

In Davidson’s two victories last week, the Spokane, WA, native averaged 12.0 points per game and 7.5 rebounds per outing. Kelly, who came into the week shooting 42 percent from the field and averaging 7.1 ppg, shot 59 percent (10-for-17) from the field in the Wildcats’ two wins last week over Elon and Wofford.

In the win over Elon, Kelly recorded the first double-double of her career, garnering 10 boards to go along with her 10 points accumulated. Kelly also chimed in the win over the Phoenix with three steals. In the victory over Wofford, Kelly played a career-high 37 minutes and finished with 14 points and five rebounds.

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Appalachian State’s Jocelyn Wyatt (14.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg in 2-0 week), College of Charleston’s Melissa Chambers (11-for-11 from the field in a win over Anderson (SC)), Chattanooga’s Katasha Brown (17.5 ppg and 5.0 rpg in 2-0 week), Elon’s Kitara McMoore (11.3 ppg and 9.7 rpg in 1-2 week), UNC Greensboro’s Irene Otamiri (10.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg in 2-0 week), Western Carolina’s Lauren Powell (13.3 ppg, including 22 points in win over Furman) and Wofford’s Mary Jo Yee (12.5 ppg in losses to Appalachian State and Davidson).
