Wofford 60, King College 40
SPARTANBURG, SC ? The Wofford men’s basketball team concluded the non-conference portion of its schedule with a 60-40 win over King College Monday night at Benjamin Johnson Arena.
Wofford (5-8) was led by Howard Wilkerson who scored a game-high 16 points and led all players with nine rebounds. Tyler Berg added 10 points for the Terriers.
RuShaun Reeves had 10 points to lead King (7-9). Nick Pasqua paced the Tornado with five rebounds.
Wofford started the game with the hot hand, jumping to a 16-2 lead with just under 13 minutes left in the first half. Berg had five points and Wilkerson four during the Terriers’ early streak.
King then outscored Wofford 15-6 over the final 12:54 of the half to pull within five at 22-17 at intermission.
The Terriers took control of the game early in the second half. Wofford outscored the Tornado 14-4 coming out of intermission to take a 36-21 lead. Tyler Whatley scored five points during the run. King was never able to shrink its deficit under double figures the remainder of the game.
“We never could get anything rolling in the first half,” said Wofford head coach Mike Young.
Whatley finished with eight points on three-of-three field goal shooting. He also converted two of three chances at the line.
“Every time I put (Tyler) in the game, he does something to help our team,” said Young. “I’ve made note of that and his minutes in the next couple of weeks will reflect that.”
Wofford will open Southern Conference play on Wednesday, Jan. 4 when the Terriers host Elon at Benjamin Johnson Arena at 7 p.m.

Towson 86, College of Charleston 75
Charleston, S.C. ? Gary Neal, playing in just his fourth game with Towson, scored 30 points, while teammate Tim Crossin added 15 as the Tigers defeated the College of Charleston, 86-75, in men’s college basketball action before 1,372 at John Kresse Arena on Monday.
Towson improved to 5-6 on the season with its second straight road win, while the Cougars fell to 7-5.
Neal, who scored 20 points in the second half, hit a 3-pointer and a layup to start the second half that gave the Tigers a 40-35 lead. Charleston eventually tied the game at 60-60 with 8:05 left on a layup by Jermaine Johnson.
Marc Pratt, who finished with 10 points and five rebounds, gave the Tigers the lead for good at 62-60 with a layup with 7:25 remaining in the game.
Neal, who became eligible on Dec. 21st after transferring from LaSalle, hit 11-of-22 attempts from the field and 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Neal scored 1,039 points in two seasons at LaSalle. Crossin hit half of his six 3-point attempts, while teammates Dennard Abraham and Lawrence Hamm added 14 points each, respectively.
Dontaye Draper led the Cougars with 19 points. Drew Hall added 12 points and a game-high six assists.
Charleston held a 41-37 rebounding advantage, including 21-10 on the offensive glass. David Lawrence had a game-high 11 rebounds for the Cougars and has 29 over his last two games. Jermaine Johnson added nine points and nine boards off the bench.
The Cougars play host to Southern Conference foe Furman in a 6:00 start on Saturday, Jan. 7th. Towson plays host to Old Dominion on Thursday, Jan. 5th at 7:30.
