WCU's Greathouse Named Men's Basketball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named Western Carolina’s Kyle Greathouse as the Anaconda’s The Rock Player of the Week for games played between January 10-16.

Greathouse, a 6-0, 175 lb. guard from Lancaster, Ohio, averaged 23.5 points and 6.5 assists per game while shooting 67 percent from the floor in helping the Catamounts to wins last week over Chattanooga and UNC Greensboro.  The junior opened the week with a season-high 18 points in the win over the Mocs, connecting on 6-of-11 shots from the floor -- all coming from 3-point range.  He also added eight assists versus UTC, the most in his career against a league opponent.  Greathouse then was 8-for-10 from the floor and 7-of-9 from beyond the arc en route to a career-high 29 points in a road win over the Spartans.  After missing his first two treys, Greathouse was successful on his final seven 3-point attempts and also hit all six of his free throws inside the final minute.

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Chattanooga’s Alphonso Pugh (averaged 15.5 points and 9.0 rebounds in two games) College of Charleston’s David Lawrence (11 points, 11 rebounds in win over The Citadel), Elon’s Chris Chalko (18 points and seven rebounds in win over UNC Greensboro), Furman’s Robby Bostain (18 points and 10 rebounds in win over Davidson), Georgia Southern’s Dwayne Foreman (career-high 18 points and eight assists versus Wofford), UNC Greensboro’s Kyle Hines (averaged 22.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in three games) and Wofford’s Howard Wilkerson (16 second half points and six rebounds in win at The Citadel).
