Elon's McMoore Named Baden SoCon Women's Basketball Player of the Week

The Southern Conference today named Elon forward Kitara McMoore as the Baden SoCon Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played between January 10-16. It is the third time this season that McMoore has picked up the distinction.

In Elon’s two victories last week, McMoore averaged 15.5 points and 11 rebounds for the Phoenix. McMoore matriculated 16 points and 11 rebounds in the Phoenix’s win over Wofford last Tuesday before garnering 15 points and 11 boards in Elon’s victory over the College of Charleston on Saturday.

The league-leader in points per game (15.5), rebounds per game (9.4) and field goal percentage (59 percent), McMoore has commandeered a double-double in five consecutive games to extend her season league-high to seven games. The sophomore now has eight in her career.

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Appalachian State’s Greteya Kelley (15 points and six steals in loss to UNCG), College of Charleston’s Erica Irick (14 points per game in 1-1 week), Chattanooga’s Katasha Brown (22 points, including six 3-pointers in victory over Western Carolina), Davidson’s Tia Washington (10 assists, six rebounds and three steals in win over Georgia Southern), UNC Greensboro’s Kristen Boone (16 ppg in 1-1 week), Western Carolina’s Monique Dawson (13 ppg in two games) and Wofford’s Mary Jo Yee (12 points in win over Furman, with three coming from the free-throw line with nine-tenths of a second left in the the game to garner Wofford a 70-69 win).
