Three Road Teams Nab Victories Monday in Men's Action

Western Carolina 87, UNC Greensboro 76

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Western Carolina's Kyle Greathouse buried 7 of 9 3-pointers and scored 29 points as the Catamounts beat UNC-Greensboro 87-76 Monday.

 

Western Carolina (9-10, 3-1 Southern Conference) was nearly perfect in the second half, hitting 15-of-19 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free throw line.

 

David Berghoeffer added 23 points for the Catamounts.

 

UNC-Greensboro (8-10, 1-3) got 26 points from Ricky Hickman, who scored 21 in the second half. Kyle Hines added 19 points and eight rebounds, Kevin Oleksiak scored 14 and Dwayne Johnson had 10 points and six assists. The Spartans shot 54.9 percent from the floor on the game.

 

Western Carolina led 55-52 before going on a 13-5 run to open up the first double digit lead of the night with 7:12 to play. The Catamounts were 8-for-8 from the line in the final 56 seconds to put the game away.


Chattanooga 73, Appalachian State 57

BOONE, N.C. (AP) - Jerice Crouch had a career-high 22 points and Chattanooga allowed just three field goals in the last 15 minutes to beat Appalachian State 73-57 on Monday.

 

Alphonso Pugh had 19 points and 12 rebounds for Chattanooga (10-9, 2-3 Southern Conference).

 

After Nathan Cranford's 3-pointer tied the contest at 44-44 with 15:21 to play, the Mountaineers made just three shots from the field. One of those field goals came on a Jeremy Clayton putback with less than a minute to play and the outcome already decided.

 

Appalachian State (7-10, 1-3) connected on just 8-of-25 shots in all in the second half, including just 2-of-13 from three-point range.

 

D.J. Thompson led the Mountaineers with 20 points and Cranford added 17.


Wofford 67, The Citadel 52

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Tyler Berg scored 19 points and had nine rebounds as Wofford beat The Citadel 67-52 Monday night.

 

The Terriers (6-12, 1-4 Southern Conference) shot 50 percent (23-of-46) from the field and held the Bulldogs to 29.6 percent (16-of-54) shooting.

 

The game was close in the first half, but The Terriers outscored The Citadel 39-25 in the second half.

 

Shane Nichols led Wofford with 21 points and made six of his eight 3-pointers. Howard Wilkerson added 16 points for the Terriers.

 

Donny McLendon scored eight of the first nine points for The Citadel (6-11, 0-5) and finished with 16 points. Dante Terry added 13 for the Bulldogs who have lost eight in a row.
