Four SoCon Women's Soccer Players Tally All-Region Nods From Soccer Buzz Magazine

Four SoCon women’s soccer players were recently named to Soccer Buzz Magazine’s All-Southeast Region team.

Reigning SoCon Player of the Year Kara Koehrn was named to the second team and was joined by teammate Nancy Haskell, who was named to the third team as a defender.

UNC Greensboro junior Shannon Donovan was named to the third team where she was joined by Furman goalkeeper Andie Hinshaw.

A four-time all-league pick and the 2005 SoCon Player of the Year, Koehrn led the conference in five scoring categories ? goals (19), goals per game (0.90), points (39), points per game (1.86) and game-winning goals (9). She also ranked ninth in the nation with her goals-per-game average and 16th for points per game. With 19 goals, the forward tied Davidson’s single-season record and matched the career goal record of 39.

Haskell earned first-team All-SoCon honors after anchoring a stalwart Davidson defense that recorded 10 shutouts on the year. The sophomore from Blacksburg, Va., started 17 of 17 games played and charted an assist against Winthrop.

Donovan, a native of Melville, NY and product of Half Hallow Hills East HS, started all 17 matches that she appeared in this past season. She also earned first team All-Southern Conference honors for the second straight season after being named the SoCon Freshman of the Year in 2003. Donovan tallied seven points on two goals and three assists during the 2005 campaign.

Hinshaw, a native of Raleigh, N.C., paced Furman to a 14-6-2 record and an appearance in the Southern Conference Tournament championship match while earning first team All-Southern Conference honors in 2005. The senior set a school single season mark with 11 shutouts while extending her SoCon career shutouts record to 36 this past season.
