Elon?s Atoyebi and Georgia Southern?s Graham share weekly honor

SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Southern Conference today named Elon’s Jackson Atoyebi and Georgia Southern’s Louis Graham as the Anaconda’s The Rock Players of the Week for games played between January 3-9.

 

Atoyebi, a 6-6 senior from Chicago, helped the Phoenix to three conference wins last week, including two victories on the road.  The forward came off the bench to average 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game while shooting 66 percent from the floor (19-of-29).  Atoyebi, who is the only Elon men’s player to garner player of the week recognition since it joined the league, opened the week with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals in a win at Wofford.  He then chipped in 22 points on 8-of-12 shooting and added eight boards and two steals versus Appalachian State.  Atoyebi finished the week by scoring 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting and pulled down nine caroms in a win at Chattanooga.

 

Graham, a 6-8 forward from West Palm Beach, FL, shot 72 percent from the floor (18-of-25) and averaged 17.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in three Eagle victories last week.  He was also 15-of-19 (79 percent) from the free throw line.  After opening with a 17-point outing against Webber International, the sophomore then added 12 points, a career-high five blocks and four rebounds at The Citadel.  Graham concluded the week by tying his career best with 22 points in a come-from-behind victory Monday against College of Charleston.

 

Others considered for the Player of the Week award included Appalachian State’s Jeremy Clayton (14 points, 12 rebounds in win over Western Carolina), College of Charleston’s David Lawrence (12.0 ppg, 9.0 rpg in two games), Chattanooga’s Casey Long (career-high 24 points in win over UNC Greensboro), The Citadel’s Dante Terry (16 points and career-best seven rebounds versus Georgia Southern) and Davidson’s Brendan Winters (team-high 18 points in loss to North Carolina).
